Preparing Your Home to Sell

A well-kept and well-maintained house is usually easier to sell for a higher price. To make a great impression and to make your Carolina home more alluring in order to get the best price for it, it’s important to first prepare the house and make it sale-ready and marketable. This can happen with careful planning and by making some simple improvements to your home that will help you get the most for your house and sell it quickly, such as:

Let Go

Emotionally separate yourself from your home. Realize you are letting go of the property, not your memories. Look forward to the next chapter in your life.

Pick Up

Pick up any clutter that has accumulated over the years. Take books off shelves, remove personal photos and knick-knacks (buyers want to envision their own family in the home and may be distracted by yours). Put items that you use every day in a box and store it under the counter.

Organize

Clean out and organize those closets. Use the two-year rule: if you haven’t worn it or used it in two years…toss it! Hang like items (pants, shirts, etc.) together and sort by color. Stack folded items neatly.
Organize the kitchen cabinets & pantry: Straighten jars, boxes, and canned goods in the pantry. Turn labels facing the same way. Stack dishes and bowls neatly. Turn coffee handles the same way.

Repair

Make minor repairs to those “little” things that may have been left undone. Replace light bulbs, tighten loose door knobs, fix leaky faucets or toilets, replace broken locks, and consider a coat of paint to brighten up the house.

Clean

Give every room in the house a good “Spring cleaning”. In addition to dusting and vacuuming, wipe off blinds, wash window treatments, shampoo carpets & rugs, wax floors, hang fresh towels and clean windows inside and out.
